I am a Real Estate Broker in Northwest Montana And I have spent thousands monthly on ads that I will never know if ANYONE ever saw. 

 

I have spent thousands on Billboards, Shiny Magazines, and Newspapers. And I cannot only say I have made one dollar from any of it.  My clients have come from Internet Searches for years now. 

 

You may ask why I continued to spend those thousands.  Was it to get my brand in the eyes of the public so they would come to know me and keep my business on the tip of their tongue ?  Was it in hopes that the Buyers would come from those Ads, Eventually ?

 

NO ~ it was to please my Real Estate Sellers. 

 

It was at the Sellers request because they thought if I was not in those expensive, magazine and newspapers with ALL the other Realtors than their property would somehow be left out.  So I put those ads in to keep my sellers HAPPY. 

 

In the last 7 years I cannot remember one Sale of Property that came from my monthly Billboard Expense, my very Spendy shiny Magazine Ad, or my weekly newspaper advertising dollars.  I also spent a large budget on sports uniforms, magnets, t-shirts, hats, That I just Gave Away.  And cannot, in any way track what those AD dollars ment. 

 

Sure it is nice to give, however giving to local events and throwing money around really did not get me more clients, it only TOLD potential clients that I was making a lot of money and could afford to through it around.  Those Full page phone book ads cost me plenty also and I had no way of telling if anyone ever saw them or cared.  They meant NOTHING to my potential client base.  When they were ready to buy Real Estate they went online to See what they could find and When they Found my Listing they called or emailed me.

  

For me, it has been the Internet all along for my Real Estate career.  I no longer spend a dime on shiny magazines, billboards, giveaways, phonebooks or Newspapers.  And the Ad dollars are do spend are well spent on the Internet.

 

  

Really FOLKS, stop spending your hard earned money making other people rich with their expensive magazine ads, newspapers, phonebooks and billboards.
